Invisalign and Fixed Orthodontics (straightening teeth)

Invisalign makes it easy to straighten your teeth without fixed orthodontics (bands, brackets, and wires). Both techniques are available at Payneham Road Dental Centre.

We provide comprehensive orthodontic solutions, including both Invisalign and fixed braces, to meet your individual needs.

About Invisalign

Invisalign is a clear alternative to traditional braces. The treatment consists of wearing a series of custom made clear plastic aligners. Each aligner is worn for two weeks and within this time your teeth will move until the desired position is accomplished as prescribed by your dentist. A digital 3D image of your treatment and final result will be available prior to commencement of treatment.

You will visit us every month or two to check your progression and get new aligners. The average treatment time is only about a year. Because aligners are removable, you can continue to eat your favourite foods while brushing and flossing normally to keep your teeth and gums healthy.

If you’re interested in Invisalign or Fixed Orthodontics and would like to find out if you are suitable please call 8363 2025 to arrange a free consultation.

Using and caring for your Invisalign Aligners

  • Aligners must be worn 22 out of the 24 hours a day. You may remove only for eating, brushing and flossing.
  • Cleaning of the Aligners involves brushing with your toothbrush and the occasional soak in a cleaning solution such as Sterident.
  • The removable Aligners can be easily lost, so if you are not wearing them, be sure to keep them safe in the container provided.
  • If you lose or break your Aligner, please contact us immediately so that arrangements can be made for a replacement.
  • There can be a natural tendency for teeth for move so on completion of treatment the final retainers need to be worn nightly on an ongoing basis.

frequently asked teeth straightening questions

Below our the questions and answers we get asked the most about teeth straitening in our Adelaide dental clinic.

Invisalign

Invisalign uses a series of custom-made, clear aligners that gradually shift your teeth into place. These aligners are removable and nearly invisible, making them a discreet option.

Fixed Orthodontics

Fixed orthodontics involves the use of bands, brackets, and wires that are permanently attached to the teeth for the duration of the treatment. These components work together to apply constant pressure, moving the teeth into the desired position.

Both Invisalign and fixed braces are effective for straightening teeth, but the best option depends on the specific case. Fixed braces are typically more suitable for complex orthodontic issues, while Invisalign is effective for mild to moderate misalignments. A consultation with an orthodontist can determine the best treatment for your needs.

Invisalign

The average treatment time for Invisalign is 12 to 18 months, though this can vary based on the complexity of the case.

Fixed Braces

Treatment with fixed braces typically takes 18 to 24 months. However, some cases may be shorter or longer depending on the individual’s orthodontic needs.

Invisalign

The main advantages of Invisalign include being nearly invisible, removable (allowing for easier eating and cleaning), and generally more comfortable due to the lack of metal components.

Fixed Braces

Fixed braces are permanently attached, meaning they are working 24/7 and don’t require patient compliance. They are also typically better suited for complex orthodontic issues.

Invisalign

There are no dietary restrictions with Invisalign, as the aligners are removed during meals. This allows you to eat and drink anything you like, as long as you brush your teeth before reinserting the aligners.

Fixed Braces

With fixed braces, there are certain dietary restrictions to avoid damaging the braces. Hard, sticky, or chewy foods should be avoided as they can break the brackets and wires, prolonging the treatment time.
