Teeth Whitening

With a professional teeth whitening system, it is simple to erase years of staining from coffee, tea, red wine, and cola. At Payneham Road Dental Centre, we use two systems for whitening teeth: an “At Home” system (Zoom) and an “In Office” system (Zoom). To help you decide which system is right for you, we offer a no-obligation consultation to assess your needs and answer specific questions.

Motivation for better oral health

Nite White Tooth Whitening System (“At Home” System) Not everyone wants an immediate “Hollywood white” and instead prefers a slow, controlled change which can have psychological and emotional benefits. The slower change does not require more time in the dental chair. Patients receive a home kit with custom-fitted trays that enable them to control the application and final result, making it a significantly cheaper form of delivery for the whitening agent.

In Chair Whitening System (Zoom) Our “in chair” system offers a more immediate change to the shade of your teeth, taking around 90 minutes in the dental chair. The Zoom system, featured in the Extreme Makeover television series, involves the placement of a highly concentrated tooth whitening agent for up to 2 hours. This system can produce dramatic results, although tooth sensitivity might occur in the short term.

frequently asked teeth whitening questions

Below our the questions and answers we get asked the most about teeth whitening in our two Adelaide dental clinics.

Yes, teeth whitening is generally safe when performed by a dental professional or using dentist-approved at-home kits. However, it’s important to follow instructions carefully to avoid potential side effects like tooth sensitivity or gum irritation.

The longevity of teeth whitening results can vary depending on individual habits and oral care routines. Typically, the effects can last from six months to two years. Regular maintenance and avoiding stain-causing foods and beverages can help prolong the results.

When done correctly, teeth whitening does not damage your teeth. Professional treatments and high-quality at-home kits are designed to be safe and effective. Overuse or misuse of whitening products can lead to tooth sensitivity and enamel damage.

There are several teeth whitening options available, including in-office treatments (such as Zoom whitening), at-home kits provided by dentists (like Nite White), and over-the-counter products. Each option varies in terms of cost, convenience, and effectiveness.

Teeth whitening is most effective on extrinsic stains caused by foods, drinks, and smoking. It may be less effective on intrinsic stains, which are deeper and often caused by factors like aging, certain medications, or trauma. A dental professional can assess your specific situation and recommend the best treatment option.
